Making the traditional decorative markings on a drone base sectionAll sets are made in African Blackwood. (The exceptions to this are bellows cheeks and drone stock which are normally other woods). Blackwood is very expensive and rather scarce, but it has Sanding the edges on a set of burr walnut veneered bellowsthe finest tone potential of any wood known and has been used exclusively by makers of woodwind instruments for over 170 years.

The metalwork on the pipes is brass and the trimmings are imitation ivory. Alternative trimmings can be provided at extra cost. The pipe Fitting the keys to a 7-Key Chanterbag is hand-stitched leather dressed with neatsfoot oil. The bag cover can be made in velvet, shepherd's plaid or tartan. Being dry-blown, i.e. by bellows, the bag should not need replacing for many years. This same principle applies to the reeds. As long as they are left undisturbed a set of reeds should last for years.
